Kitchen Updates & Smaller Projects
Not every kitchen needs a full gut remodel. Stewart also takes on smaller kitchen projects, like removing a wall to open up the space, adding or replacing an island, or installing new countertops and a backsplash, with the same design-build care as our largest jobs.
- Wall removal to open the space
- New or replacement islands
- Countertop & backsplash upgrades
- Same team, same standards
Kitchen Update vs. Full Kitchen Remodel
Stewart does both. Here is how a targeted kitchen update compares to a full design-build remodel, so you can choose the right scope. (We do not offer cabinet refacing.)
| Kitchen Update | Full Kitchen Remodel | |
|---|---|---|
| What changes | Targeted upgrades: countertops, backsplash, an island, or opening a wall | Layout, cabinetry, plumbing, electrical & structure |
| Change the layout? | Sometimes, such as removing a wall or adding an island | Yes, completely |
| Typical timeline | Shorter | About 6 to 12 weeks |
| Best for | A kitchen that mostly works but needs an upgrade | A kitchen that does not work for how you live |
| Done by Stewart? | Yes | Yes |

Cost depends on the size of your kitchen, the materials you choose, and whether the layout or structure changes. Rather than quote a one-size-fits-all number, we walk your space during a free consultation and give you a detailed, transparent estimate built around your actual project.
A typical Stewart kitchen remodel takes about 6 to 12 weeks from demolition to final walkthrough. Custom cabinetry lead times and structural changes, such as removing a wall or moving plumbing, can extend that window. You receive a week-by-week schedule before work begins and updates throughout the project.
Yes. Stewart pulls every required permit and manages all inspections in El Paso, Teller, and Douglas counties, including through the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department. Permitting is built into our design-build process, so you never coordinate paperwork or schedule inspectors yourself.
You can almost always stay in your home. Your kitchen itself is typically out of use for two to six weeks of active construction. Stewart helps you set up a temporary kitchen space and sequences the work to keep that window as short as possible.
Yes. A kitchen remodel is typically one of the strongest investments you can make in your home, and an updated kitchen is often the single biggest driver of buyer interest. Just as important, it changes how you use your home every day.
Design-build means one team designs your kitchen and builds it under a single contract. The people drawing the plans stay accountable for what is behind your walls, which prevents the budget surprises and finger-pointing common when a separate designer and contractor do not communicate. Stewart has used the design-build model since 1999.
Both. Along with full custom remodels, Stewart takes on smaller kitchen projects such as removing a wall, adding or replacing an island, and installing new countertops and backsplashes. We do not offer cabinet refacing, which is a specialty service best handled by dedicated refacing companies.

Yes. Stewart designs and builds custom cabinetry sized to your exact space rather than adapting your kitchen to stock cabinet dimensions. Custom cabinetry lets us maximize corners, ceiling height, and specialty storage such as deep pot drawers and full-height pantries.
Yes. Many Colorado Springs neighborhoods, from the Broadmoor to Briargate and Flying Horse, have HOA or architectural review guidelines. Stewart prepares and submits the required approvals as part of the project and factors that timeline in from the start.
